Washington, DC – In anticipation of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 becoming law, Rob Gardner, Vice President, Congressional and Regulatory Affairs for the Solar Energy Manufacturers for America (SEMA) Coalition, released the following statement:

“National security leaders in Congress get it. The SEMA Coalition commends the 2026 NDAA language that recognizes both the vulnerability posed by relying on Chinese solar in defense systems and the promise of U.S. manufactured solar for our warfighters.

“The Department of War is the largest energy user in the federal government and should go beyond Buy American requirements to eliminate vulnerabilities posed by China in the power they purchase. Moreover, warfighters, who rely on satellites and increasingly surveillance drones, rely on solar. Solar power is nearly universal on vital satellite communication systems. Now that the silicon supply chain has been secured, the U.S. can pursue the next generation of solar technologies. Getting to the next generation of solar technology before China is critical for enhanced lethality.”
